Senior Assessment Freeze Information!
Your new 2008 PTAX340 form (2008 Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze) should have been mailed to you a couple of months ago if you have had the Senior Citizens Assessment Freeze in the past. If this will be your first year applying for the exemption we have the new forms in our office. The deadline for applying for this exemption was July 1, 2008, the county has given us an extension, however, it would be best to file for this exemption as soon as possible.
In order for you to fill out your assessment freeze forms you will need to have your IRS 1040 with you. If you do not fill out a tax return you will need to bring in any income that you have received during 2007 and your Social Security 1099 form. For those people not collecting Social Security you will need to bring in any pension or other income that you received during 2007. Remember, that the exemption is for those seniors who:
* Will be 65 or older during 2008.
* Your total household income in 2007 was $55,000 or less.
* On January 1, 2007 and January 1, 2008, you
* used the property as your principal residence,
* owned the property, or had a legal or equitable interest in the property as evidenced by a written instrument, or had a leasehold interest in the property used as a single-family residence, and
* were liable for the payment of property taxes.
For more information on this exemption or any other assessment related questions, please feel free to call our office.
Sincerely,
John Randall
